Case: 14ct gold in generally good condition for its age. There are some light scratches on the side of the case and some scuffs on the hallmarks on the inside of the case back.
Dial: Black dial with some fading with age, creating a very light speckling of grey across the middle of the dial. There is a mark to the top right of the sub-dial. The tracks, hour markers, and text are all in good condition.
Hands: Gold hour and minute hands and silver sub-dial hand are all in good condition given the age of the watch with no significant damage or wear.
Bracelet / Strap: Fitted with a new black leather strap. The lugs are not removable and straps must be fitted to the watch.
Movement: Manual-winding calibre 83, produced in the 1930s and 1940s as a transitional calibre between pocket watches and wrist watches. The movement is clean and in good working condition.
Since 1868 IWC has been a powerhouse of watchmaking. This is a beautiful example of an early 1940s dress watch. The gold case is thinly wrapped around the edge of the dial where the Arabic hour markers are placed near to the edge of, creating a distinctive style with spacious design. The dial is marked "International Watch Co. Schaffhausen" in fine text at 12 o'clock and a delicate sub-dial is at 6 o'clock.
